Northfield Township

In addition to the Northfield Township Food Pantry, which provides food to those in need, Northfield Township offers both general and emergency financial assistance, and connections to social service agencies. Call 847-724-8300 during business hours or visit their website.

North Shore Senior Center

While the North Shore Senior Center is currently closed to the public, staff is working remotely. 

  • Adult Protective Services
    If you suspect abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of an older adult or adult with disabilities ages 18-59, call 847-784-6000 Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm, or the 24-hour hotline 866-800-1409.
  • Seniors Feeling Depressed or Anxious 
    If you are experiencing depression and/or anxiety, call 847-784-6000. Leave a message and a counselor will return your call within 24 business hours. If you are having suicidal thoughts, please call the Suicide Prevention hotline at 800-273-8255.

North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic

The North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic offers pro bono legal services on housing, domestic violence, and other legal assistance. Visit their website or call 847-737-4042.

Social Services for Teens, Young Adults, and Families 

Northbrook Cares is a website managed by the Village of Northbrook’s Community Relations Commission to connect teens, young adults, and their families with local social services. 

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities is ready to support basic human needs for food, provide emergency assistance, and to lift the spirit of those hit hardest by COVID-19.

  • Food pantries and evening hot meal programs are available at 1717 Rand Road in Des Plaines. Food Packs and Hot Meals are distributed utilizing curbside distribution, while adhering to distancing protocols. For more information dial 847-376-2100
    • Food Pantry Hours In Des Plaines Are:
      • Tuesday 10am-noon, 1-3pm
      • Wednesday 10am-noon, 1-6pm
      • Thursday 10am-noon, 1-3pm
    • Hot Meals are distributed on Tuesday & Thursday evening at 6pm.
  • For urgent needs, please call 877-426-6515. This call center responds to requests for emergency financial assistance and coordinated entry shelter and housing needs for suburban cook county residents.
  • Counseling, case management, and other services that can be provided remotely are being delivered accordingly. Please call our counseling intake number at 312-655-7725
